Position Overview
Located within the Systems Physiology lab at ETH Zurich in Basel, the project focuses on identifying novel prognostic biomarkers for Colorectal Cancer (CRC) through advanced spatial omics technologies and digital pathology. With this collaborative initiative co-led by the University Hospital Basel, the work aims to improve the identification of high-risk Stage II CRC patients, addressing a critical public health challenge.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Generate and analyze spatial transcriptomics and image datasets related to CRC.
- Identify novel prognostic biomarkers for enhanced risk stratification.
- Translate findings into robust, interpretable models.
Desired Qualifications
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Pathology, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in spatial omics technologies and hands-on data analysis.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics and computational analysis of large-scale biological datasets.
- Solid background in machine learning methods, particularly with neuronal networks or deep learning for image analysis.
- Expertise in digital pathology including image processing and feature extraction from histological datasets.
- Programming skills in R and/or Python.
- Experience in colorectal cancer research is beneficial.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven track record of scientific publications is an advantage.
