Join a Cutting-Edge Research Team in Bioelectronics and Synthetic Biology
At the forefront of innovation, the Biotechnology and Bioengineering group in Basel, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Martin Fussenegger, invites exceptionally qualified individuals to engage in transformative projects that merge synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and bioelectronics. This opportunity is housed within the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) at ETH Zurich, a pioneering interdisciplinary environment that combines biology with engineering sciences.
Project Overview
Our research is dedicated to the advancement of bioelectronics and synthetic biology. As part of the group, you will explore the convergence of synthetic biology and advanced nanotechnology to develop human cells engineered for next-generation bioelectronic medicine. This includes designing programmable cells that can wirelessly respond to various signals, aiming to create minimally invasive therapies for a range of diseases.
Role Description
Positions in this innovative research environment focus on integrating catalyst engineering, computational simulation, bioelectrode device fabrication, and electrical engineering. You will contribute to the development of bioelectronic interfaces that facilitate closed-loop programming of cellular behavior and real-time monitoring of metabolism, with the potential to design novel bioelectronic implants and specialized control software.
Candidate Profile
- Strong background in physics, material science, or chemistry.
- Experience in bioelectronics or software simulations is preferred, or a willingness to learn.
- Solid understanding of electrochemistry and materials chemistry.
- A collaborative spirit, eager to work alongside molecular biologists and bioengineers.
- A proven academic track record with aspirations for a career in industrial research and development or entrepreneurship.
What We Offer
- A role with significant impact within a world-renowned institution that values professional growth and societal change.
- Commitment to sustainability and climate neutrality.
- A wide array of benefits including public transport season tickets, car sharing, sports options, childcare, and pension plans.
