Opportunity Overview

Discovery Sciences (DSc) in Basel is in search of an exceptional individual with specialized knowledge in stem-cell technology and automated assays to bolster our drug discovery initiatives. This role involves the application of complex disease models at scale, aimed at identifying innovative therapeutics and targets. Collaborating closely with internal teams and academic partners, you will also focus on the development and utilization of advanced human in vitro disease models for drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement scalable methodologies utilizing organoid and organ-on-chip disease models for target discovery on robotic platforms.
  • Conduct research as a bench scientist within an interdisciplinary and collaborative matrix environment at the Applied Tissue Models Center (ATMC).
  • Build effective relationships within DSc, across various Therapeutic Areas, and with academic collaborators, embodying Novartis values of transparency, integrity, courage, innovation, quality, and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Master's or equivalent bio-engineering degree in cell/molecular biology or biotechnology, complemented by industry experience.
  • Strong proficiency in human induced stem cell technology, gene editing/CRISPR, mammalian cell culture, and molecular biology.
  • Experience with organoids, organ-on-chip models, and long-term differentiation protocols using plates, bioreactors, and robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with large automation setups, liquid handlers, washers, readers, scheduling software, and technologies for readout, such as fluorescence and live-cell microscopy.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience in high-throughput automation settings.
  • Practical work experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Expertise in setting up organoid models for drug discovery.
