Position Overview

The Neuroscience Department at BioMedical Research in Basel, Switzerland is looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join the in vivo neuroinflammation team. This role is pivotal in contributing to various research projects aimed at developing innovative therapies for neurodegenerative disorders, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for countless patients facing these challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and independently conduct in vivo studies with a focus on neuroinflammatory pathways.
  • Establish new in vivo models related to neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Perform and interpret ex vivo analyses, emphasizing histology, biochemistry, FACS, and molecular biology.
  • Develop and execute in vitro cellular assays to assess inflammatory processes.
  • Present data while contextualizing it within complex frameworks.
  • Support general laboratory duties as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • University degree (MSc) or equivalent in neuroscience, immunology, or cell biology (PhD candidates will not be considered).
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant laboratory experience in industrial or academic settings.
  • Previous experience in neuroscience drug discovery is advantageous.
  • Strong expertise in in vivo rodent work, including dosing, surgery, and behavioral assessments.
  • Familiarity with various histological methods, microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Experience in RNA/DNA technologies and biochemistry, such as qPCR and Western blot.
  • Solid understanding of immunology and related methods like flow cytometry, HTRF, and ELISA.
  • Proficient in cell culture techniques involving primary cells or iPSCs.
  • Ability to evaluate large datasets, with a strong emphasis on documentation and the use of analysis tools.
  • Willingness to learn, innovate, and present findings within the lab environment.
  • Demonstrated scientific curiosity, engagement, flexibility, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proven track record of successful collaborations and effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Fluent in both oral and written English.
