This initiative focuses on creating data-driven tools to evaluate vulnerabilities in the supply chain for critical medicines, utilizing pharmaceutical Bills of Materials (BOMs), trade flows, and production data. As part of this effort, you will play a key role in informing resilient market design and enhancing policy decision-making.

Project Overview

The primary responsibilities will revolve around extracting and validating BOMs for medicines through the analysis of patent documents and public databases while linking this information to global supply chain data. This role is ideal for individuals pursuing studies in industrial chemistry or pharmaceutical sciences, particularly those interested in applying data science to pressing policy issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Extracting and curating pharmaceutical BOMs from patents and public sources.
• Interpreting chemical and manufacturing information to validate component lists.
• Matching BOMs with manufacturer and trade data from the Pharmaceutical Supply Atlas.
• Writing Python scripts for data extraction and preprocessing.
• Collaborating with the lead research team.

Ideal Profile

• Currently enrolled at ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich in chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or related fields.
• Basic understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including APIs, excipients, and intermediates.
• Intermediate coding skills in Python.
• Demonstrated interest in data-driven research with policy impact.
