About Us
The IT Services (ITS) at ETH Zurich function as a pivotal service organization within a large and intricate IT ecosystem, focused on enhancing teaching, research, and knowledge transfer. In the ITS section, Scientific IT Services, the group Computational & Data Science Support (CDSS) is dedicated to bridging the gap between computational research and the provision of IT services and infrastructure.
Your Role
As a Data Science Expert specializing in GenAI technologies, you will contribute significantly to ETH's initiative aimed at developing a scalable and extensible "AI platform" designed for various services supporting teaching, research, and administration. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Gathering requirements and conducting feasibility studies for GenAI solutions.
- Developing prototypes of GenAI workflows tailored to client specifications, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) bots and AI agents.
- Documenting and assisting in the integration of prototypes into ETH's AI platform.
- Investigating emerging technologies to enhance the platform.
- Contributing to machine learning projects across research and administrative domains.
- Preparing and presenting teaching materials on GenAI best practices and machine learning topics.
- Communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders, translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD degree in data or computational sciences, or a related field.
- Understanding of mathematical and numerical foundations of machine learning and statistical modeling.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning libraries, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Experience with GenAI architectures and tools for building language model applications.
- Experience in developing chatbots and conversational agents, including RAG systems.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices including automated testing and version control.
- The ability to adapt methodologies for diverse scientific computing challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
Advantageous skills include:
- Understanding of prompt engineering techniques.
- Experience with cloud platforms and their machine learning services.
- Prior engagement with GenAI technologies in educational contexts.
- Familiarity with AI ethics and responsible AI practices.
Work Environment
The position is based in Zurich, with potential travel to other Swiss cities.
