About the Stroke Unit at Inselspital

The Stroke Unit of Inselspital, University Hospital Bern, treats over 1,000 stroke patients annually, showcasing extensive expertise in the care of this patient population. Our interdisciplinary stroke team is involved in numerous national and international research studies, resulting in more than 300 publications in esteemed international journals each year.

Project Overview

This ongoing project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), focuses on enhancing post-stroke care and mitigating the effects of post-stroke dementia. It seeks to cultivate a mechanistic understanding of cognitive trajectories following a stroke. The candidate will engage in analyzing individual pre- and post-stroke predictors of dementia, as well as conducting lesion-based assessments involving spatial lesion characteristics, (dys)connectome analyses, and various lesion-network and imaging-derived parameters.

Candidate Qualifications

• PhD degree or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of neuropsychological studies
• Fundamental understanding of (bio)statistics
• Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, R, or Python
• Experience in neuroimaging and/or network-based analysis
• Excellent written English communication skills
• A strong publication record
• Advanced programming skills in Python are advantageous
