Join Our Dynamic Team at ETH Zurich

We are engaged in groundbreaking research within the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, specifically at the Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology. Our focus is on exploring the regenerative capabilities of stem cells, particularly pluripotent and skeletal muscle stem cells, via advanced transgenic models.

We are in search of a dedicated and organized specialist to contribute to our research initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in overseeing the development of rodent transgenic models, utilizing techniques such as CRISPR and pluripotent stem cell injections.

About Our Research Environment

Under the leadership of Prof. Ori Bar-Nur, our laboratory consists of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team working to translate fundamental research insights into potentially impactful therapeutic applications. Our investigations merge molecular and cellular biology with gene- and cell-based therapies, as well as tissue engineering. Through transgenesis, we aim to enhance our understanding of biological processes and explore novel treatment strategies for muscle diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate chimeric rodents from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) via blastocyst injection or morula aggregation.
  • Create transgenic mice and rats using pronuclear injection, electroporation, or AAV transduction of DNA and CRISPR-Cas9 constructs.
  • Conduct embryo and sperm cryopreservation.
  • Facilitate in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
  • Perform reproductive-related surgical interventions, including harvesting oocytes and embryos, sperm collection, and vasectomy.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Substantial experience in a transgenic animal unit is required, with the capability to undertake key responsibilities listed above.
  • Certification in LTK-M1 or an equivalent permit to work with laboratory rodents is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are mandatory, as daily interactions with international PhD students and postdoctoral fellows will be a significant aspect of the role.
  • An organized, collaborative, and reliable work ethic.

What We Offer

Our laboratory is situated in the SLA building on the Schwerzenbach Campus of ETH Zurich, globally recognized for its excellence in research and education. We provide:

  • A cutting-edge work environment complemented by well-equipped facilities and expert staff.
  • A supportive and collegial atmosphere fostering innovative and dynamic projects.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package, adhering to the regulations of ETH Zurich.

We look forward to welcoming a new member to our ambitious team and advancing the frontiers of regenerative and muscle biology together.
