The Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ/UZH), led by Professor Alexander Zimmermann, is seeking an accomplished individual to spearhead exciting advancements in translational vascular research.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership and further develop the Swiss Vascular Biobank, a prominent source of high-quality human vascular tissue.
• Drive an independent research program focused on aortic diseases such as aneurysms and dissections.
• Oversee laboratory personnel, students, and junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Design and execute impactful research projects encompassing molecular biology, histology, immunohistochemistry, and various omics methodologies.
• Integrate clinical data with molecular datasets to enhance research outcomes.
• Prepare and submit competitive grant applications to secure funding from sources like SNF and ERC.
• Ensure adherence to Swiss regulatory frameworks in all research activities.

Your Profile

• PhD or MD/PhD in life sciences, medicine, or a related field.
• Several years of postdoctoral experience with a focus on leading or coordinating laboratory teams.
• Proven ability to supervise students and technical staff effectively.
• A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and successful grant writing.
• Expertise in translational research using human tissues and experience with omics approaches.
• Ability to navigate the interface of clinical and experimental research with ease.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
