Position Overview

This fixed-term appointment spans an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension. The primary objective is to develop a centralized pool of space specialists to support ETH Zurich-led space projects, enhancing our role within the national and international space ecosystem.

Key Contributions

As part of this initiative, you will significantly contribute to the LunarLeaper mission, focusing on innovative mobility and exploration strategies for the lunar surface. This role offers a unique environment to develop high-risk, high-reward space systems solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage complex space projects, ensuring timely completion within scope and budget.
  • Actively identify and manage project risks and issues.
  • Coordinate closely with systems engineers and technical leads for alignment on progress, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for potential challenges in collaboration with experts.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including faculty, industry partners, and space agencies such as ESA, JAXA, and NASA.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with clients and suppliers.
  • Support the preparation and submission of project proposals and grant applications.
  • Handle reporting, documentation, and administrative tasks to facilitate official reviews.
  • Organize internal and external meetings seamlessly.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing complex projects, particularly in the space sector, and possess exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Master’s degree in engineering or natural science.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management.
  • Expertise in creating project plans and schedules.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Proven ability to deliver solutions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with planetary or lunar rovers and landed spacecraft.
  • Proven track record in space-related projects.
  • Collaboration experience with academic institutions in space projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Swiss and European space ecosystem.
  • Understanding of business aspects in space, including workflow design and product assurance.
  • Familiarity with quality, configuration, and risk management processes in line with international standards.
