Position Overview
Located in Basel, Switzerland, this role involves full-time, onsite collaboration within the Novartis BioMedical Research division, which serves as the innovation engine for therapeutic breakthroughs. Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Engage collaboratively in a multidisciplinary project team to develop novel oligonucleotide therapies targeting various disease areas.
- Lead a team in the design and synthesis of new nucleotide building blocks, linkers, and backbones from small to medium scale.
- Intellectually contribute to project success by exploring innovative siRNA chemistries and ensuring smooth transition to development.
- Direct siRNA drug discovery projects in partnership with leaders from other functions.
- Critically analyze project data using advanced data analysis tools to tackle complex challenges, developing hypotheses and designing molecules.
- Drive innovation by developing new projects and solutions in RNA therapeutics through collaboration with internal and external partners globally.
- Document and communicate scientific findings effectively to diverse audiences, including in patent filings and publications.
- Mentor and support team members through knowledge sharing and hands-on experience.
Required Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A PhD in a relevant field focusing on oligonucleotide synthesis and design.
- A minimum of 8 years of practical experience in medicinal chemistry specifically with oligonucleotides, with a proven track record of successful deliverables.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in developing people.
- A curious mindset, open to diverse thinking, eager to grow personally and professionally.
- Innovative and independent problem-solving capabilities.
- An interest in disruptive technologies, data science, and automation as they relate to drug discovery.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, adept at discussing strategies and challenges with varied stakeholders.
