At Lightium, we are on the forefront of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology and are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to contribute to the advancement of our innovative thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform. This role provides an exciting opportunity to collaborate with leading academic institutions and help shape the future of photonics solutions.

Position Summary

In this role, you will define, develop, and optimize advanced electro-optical test and measurement methods to enhance our TFLN-based PIC platforms. You will play a crucial role in our state-of-the-art metrology lab, bringing cutting-edge photonic technologies from concept to mass production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procedures: Define and implement top-tier electro-optical RF measurement methods and standard operating procedures in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Work: Conduct high-speed electro-optical and RF measurements at die and wafer levels, achieving data rates over 200 Gb/s and bandwidths exceeding 100 GHz. Background in fiber-to-chip coupling techniques is essential.
  • Lab Automation: Automate our wafer prober platform using Python-based scripting and maintain a well-structured database for RF and optical high-speed equipment.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with R&D teams throughout the design, testing, and characterization phases, contributing to cross-functional projects related to TFLN technology.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation, report findings, and establish standard operating procedures while training new colleagues.
  • Innovation: Stay informed on the latest advancements in photonics and integrate new techniques into our metrology processes, contributing to our intellectual property portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: An advanced degree (PhD or Postdoc) in Communication, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related area.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in RF and optical measurements at die and wafer levels, preferably within an industrial setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in testing methods and lab automation. Experience with programming languages such as Python, Opentap, C++, or C# is a plus, alongside familiarity with wafer-level platforms.
  • Organization & Documentation: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks while adhering to confidentiality protocols and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with international partners.
  • Adaptability: Ability to excel in a fast-paced startup environment, showcasing flexibility and resilience.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages such as German, French, or Asian languages is advantageous.
