Our innovative company specializes in implantable and extracorporeal blood pumps that utilize cutting-edge magnetic levitation technology, catering to the needs of advanced heart failure patients.

Situated in the vibrant city center of Zurich, our team of around 130 skilled professionals focuses on the development, quality assurance, and production of advanced circulatory support systems. We invite a talented and motivated individual to become an integral part of our Research & Development team.

Your Role

This role is suited for an experienced engineer with a strong background in electromagnetic motor design, control systems, and electrical engineering. You will engage with complex medical devices that profoundly affect patient outcomes. Your contributions will be vital in the design, modeling, and control of motors used in our life-saving blood pumps, collaborating closely with various teams to bring innovative products from concept to commercialization.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize electromagnetic motors for medical devices, with a focus on magnetically levitated systems.
  • Evaluate motor concepts and topologies, balancing performance with manufacturability and reliability.
  • Conduct electromagnetic and thermo-magnetic analysis, including FEM-based simulations.
  • Model and optimize loss mechanisms and conduct efficiency and thermal trade-off studies.
  • Translate simulation results into tangible design enhancements and validate with prototype data.
  • Develop motor control strategies to ensure stable and precise pump operation.
  • Collaborate with power electronics and firmware teams to integrate necessary systems.
  • Support system integration and testing, as well as root-cause analysis.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on components and processes.
  • Support sustaining projects for existing products, including obsolescence projects and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in new product development for medical devices, particularly Class 2 or Class 3 devices.
  • Strong knowledge of electromagnetics, motor design, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in modeling and analysis tools like MATLAB/Simulink and electromagnetic simulation software.
  • Experience with medical design controls and relevant standards.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, as it is the primary language of communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in motor design and manufacturing.
  • Background in reliability testing and long-term endurance assessments.
  • Familiarity with FDA or notified body collaboration.
  • Knowledge of Windchill, Altium, and Solidworks.
  • Understanding of statistical methods and their applications.
  • Communicative German skills are a plus.

We are excited about the prospect of welcoming you to our team in Zurich, where innovation and patient care go hand in hand.
