Position Overview

This role is focused on mass spectrometry data, emphasizing bioinformatics analysis and interpretation to aid researchers at FGCZ. The team is responsible for raw data processing, high-performance computing, statistical evaluation, interpretation, and integrated analysis. The position includes maintaining a portfolio of commercial and open-source applications and developing innovative data processing and analysis pipelines to ensure data integrity and reproducibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the proteomics and metabolomics user community by maintaining and developing mass spectrometric data processing and analysis pipelines.
  • Utilize expertise in informatics and data science to ensure the reproducibility of data analysis.
  • Contribute to both back-office and user-facing tasks to assist collaborators with data interpretation and bioinformatics projects.

Profile

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Strong team player, able to collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists to effectively translate their needs into actionable analysis.
  • Academic degree in a relevant field such as computer science, statistics, or biology; a master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Linux, including command-line interfaces.
  • Practical knowledge of programming languages (C++, C#, Java, Python) and version control tools such as Git.
  • A responsible approach to using AI-assisted tools in scientific contexts.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Experience managing and analyzing large-scale datasets, particularly in omics-related fields.
  • Background in bioinformatics with a focus on mass spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with imaging, spatial, or cross-omics disciplines.
  • A proven record of writing and maintaining reliable code.
  • Experience with R/Bioconductor and web programming for client-side applications.
  • Proficiency in UI/UX design, especially in developing interfaces for scientific data visualization.
  • Knowledge of virtualization tools, such as Docker or Apptainer.
  • Familiarity with resource management software like Slurm.

Work Environment

The ability to work independently is essential, alongside effective interaction with both the research and technical staff at the center as well as with external research groups, all within a collaborative team environment. Advanced English proficiency is necessary, as it is the primary working language.
