Your Role

As a Research Scientist, you will work on developing advanced sensing solutions integral to ABB’s future systems and products. We seek a team member with a strong research background who is enthusiastic about translating high-caliber academic research into practical industrial applications. In this role, you will collaborate with a dynamic and international team of scientists at ABB Research, enjoying a culture that fosters innovation and diverse career development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and lead research initiatives in sensing and machine perception, addressing various business needs, including process automation and maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create novel and impactful sensing products and solutions, from initial concept to experimental validation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate project proposals that deliver business impacts.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, and universities.
  • Publish findings in scientific publications and internal technical reports, and generate intellectual property.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with a solid foundation in machine perception and computer vision.
  • Expertise in machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, or digital signal processing is desirable.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux environment.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software frameworks for technologies such as cameras, LIDAR, or radar (e.g., OpenCV, ROS2) is a plus.
  • A proven track record of publications in top-tier scientific conferences and journals.
  • A collaborative spirit, enthusiasm for learning new industrial applications, and versatility across various technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
