Project Overview
The Soft Robotics Lab at ETH Zurich, under the Singapore-ETH Centre, is seeking a talented engineer to develop revolutionary soft robotic systems for automated baggage handling in aircraft cargo holds. The lab aims to redefine robotic design and control to achieve flexibility and adaptability in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop soft robotic end-effectors and manipulation subsystems for baggage handling from concept to prototype.
- Design and fabricate grippers and compliant actuation elements, integrating sensing and control.
- Conduct systematic real-world testing to validate performance, focusing on rapid prototyping and iteration.
- Engineer solutions for handling diverse baggage types, ensuring reliable and effective manipulation strategies.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, integrating end-effector technology with partner institutions’ work.
- Focus on delivering functional prototypes and effective engineering solutions in line with project milestones.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Hold a Master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Possess hands-on experience in building physical systems, including prototyping, fabrication, and electronics.
- Exhibit knowledge in actuation, mechanism design, control, or embedded systems.
- Demonstrate prior research experience and strong communication skills in English.
- Embrace a proactive approach to building, testing, and iterating designs quickly.
- Show motivation for interdisciplinary research and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Have an interest in soft robotics or bio-inspired design, ideally with experience in handling deformable objects.
