Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our IT infrastructure team in Visp. This role will serve as a technical expert, providing engineering support across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of infrastructure compute platforms and extensive experience in Data Center facility management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee operation, monitoring, and maintenance of data center components to ensure efficiency, reliability, and security of IT/OT infrastructure.
• Enforce Lonza Data Center standards globally and manage regional data centers.
• Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for IT technical infrastructure topics at the Visp site for external IT service providers and the central infrastructure team.
• Coordinate with local mechanical service teams (electrical, facilities, fire, security, cooling, etc.) to ensure operational readiness of data center facilities.
• Supervise and direct the work of Data Center Operations staff.
• Develop and define the Data Center strategy and roadmap based on organizational needs.
• Establish cabling and labeling standards with installation concepts, including types of cables (copper, fiber, Twinax, etc.).
• Create and periodically refresh the technical disaster recovery plan for the site.
• Manage the lifecycle of IT infrastructure assets and associated risks.
• Plan and oversee data center expansions or migrations, including needs evaluation and risk assessment.
• Champion continuous improvements, standardization, and automation of infrastructure systems.
• Maintain the consistency of infrastructure environments through well-documented standards and procedures.
• Document physical installations, including rack layouts.
• Ensure compliance with security and policy guidelines within the IT infrastructure scope.
• Monitor data center performance, proactively addressing issues and implementing solutions to optimize operations.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in data center management, proposing improvements and innovations.

Key Requirements

• Experience operating a data center facility, including power, cooling, and security.
• Strong technical expertise with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Linux Server, Storage, and Backup.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Proficiency in both English and German is required.
• Familiarity with security hardening and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work with multi-functional engineering teams in a global context.
• Proven track record in simplifying and standardizing infrastructure environments.
• Capability to drive cultural and technological change.
• Experience in building, scaling, and overseeing infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of regulations related to data center operations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 is advantageous.
• Relevant certifications like Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) and Certified Data Center Management Professional (CDCMP) are beneficial.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to diverse partners.
• Ability to anticipate challenges and develop proactive solutions.
