Quantum Device and Measurement Engineering

Join a dynamic team dedicated to advancing quantum information processing with superconducting circuits. This role involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of state-of-the-art control and measurement setups, including dilution refrigerators and microwave frequency instrumentation. You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving nanofabrication processes for high-coherence superconducting qubits within the PSI PICO cleanroom.

While primarily a technical position, active participation in host group projects is strongly encouraged. This includes fabricating test samples and conducting qubit characterization experiments. The role offers the opportunity to co-supervise Master and semester students while interacting with a vibrant community of quantum researchers and technical experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, and maintain control and measurement setups for quantum information processing.
  • Manage dilution refrigerators and microwave frequency instrumentation.
  • Maintain and further improve nanofabrication processes for high-coherence superconducting qubits.
  • Participate in project activities such as test sample fabrication and qubit characterization.
  • Co-supervise Master and semester students.

Required Profile

Candidates should hold a PhD degree in physics or a relevant engineering degree. Prior experience with dilution refrigerators and nanofabrication is essential, along with good communication skills and proficiency in English. The position requires a methodical approach to solving complex problems involving multiple control parameters.

A strong motivation to learn about recent developments in the nanofabrication of high-coherence superconducting circuit devices and control and measurement instrumentation is highly beneficial. Good Python programming skills and a background in superconducting circuit experiments are considered a plus.

What We Offer

Our institution is built on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-the-job training, personal development possibilities, and a pronounced vocational training culture. We support the optimal combination of work and family life or other personal interests through modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure.
