Position Overview
Located in Basel, Switzerland, this full-time position is focused on advancing transformative therapies for patients with chronic diseases, particularly liver diseases, at the Novartis Biomedical Research facility.
Role Responsibilities
In this pivotal role, you will:
- Lead a team of scientists dedicated to preclinical activities for identifying and validating targets and drug candidates, with an emphasis on liver diseases.
- Utilize innovative in vitro/ex vivo models that replicate human disease conditions to identify potential drug candidates.
- Translate therapeutic concepts between preclinical models and patient-focused applications, employing cutting-edge experimental approaches and data science tools.
- Significantly influence the strategic direction of liver research, remaining current with developments in the field.
- Mentor and guide a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative atmosphere while enhancing team members' skills.
- Collaborate effectively in a matrix-based, cross-functional environment across departments within Novartis Biomedical Research.
- Maintain strong external collaborations with academic institutions and manage partnerships.
Key Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD/Postdoc in life sciences, including cell or molecular biology or physiology.
- At least 5 years of experience in drug discovery for chronic diseases within an industrial setting, showcasing a range of expertise from target identification to clinical applications.
- An in-depth molecular understanding of physiology and disease pathophysiology, particularly concerning liver diseases, along with expertise in cell-based methods that emulate disease conditions.
- High proficiency in molecular, cellular, and biochemical assay and profiling technologies, including single-cell transcriptomics.
- A robust understanding of data science and experience in utilizing data science tools to analyze complex datasets.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including team management, setting objectives, and fostering individual development.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams of biologists, computational scientists, and translational researchers.
- Excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and meticulous attention to detail.
