Research Opportunity in Membrane Processes
The Membrane and Interfacial Science Lab in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zürich is engaged in developing materials and processes that enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in separation technologies. Our focus is on innovative membrane technologies that can significantly improve carbon capture, gas separations, and water purification. The research conducted in our lab encompasses membrane synthesis, experimental characterization, and transport modeling.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will spearhead and advance research activities aimed at next-generation membrane processes. Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluating membrane performance in gas and liquid separations, such as carbon capture, methane purification, and water treatment
- Fabricating and characterizing nanoporous and polymeric materials
- Conducting theoretical and computational modeling of transport mechanisms and energy efficiency
- Supervising and mentoring doctoral and master’s students
- Preparing scientific manuscripts and contributing to research proposals
This role involves close collaboration with Prof. Anthony Straub and may include engagement with industrial partners and national research initiatives, like NCCR Separations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in membrane science, material fabrication, or transport modeling
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- A strong motivation to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse international research team
Working Environment
We offer a competitive salary and social benefits aligned with ETH Zürich standards. In addition, opportunities for scientific mentoring and professional development are provided. Candidates will have the chance to cultivate leadership experience through student supervision and the development of research proposals, with flexibility to shape individual research directions within the project framework. Access to cutting-edge research infrastructure and international scientific networks will also be an advantage, facilitating publication in prominent journals and presentations at significant global conferences.
