The FERROIC Lab at ETH Zurich is at the forefront of exploring novel quantum phenomena in condensed-matter systems using advanced ultrafast laser spectroscopy across a wide spectral range. Our mission is to uncover and manipulate fundamental physical phenomena that emerge in non-equilibrium conditions, pushing the boundaries of current scientific understanding.
Project Background
This initiative focuses on the investigation of intense ultrafast optical or Terahertz excitation to generate, manipulate, and probe dynamic states in quantum materials. The team will delve into non-Hermitian phase transitions and their fundamental characteristics while exploring their implications across various strongly correlated materials.
Position Responsibilities
- Design, build, and advance ultrafast laser spectroscopy experiments within the optical and Terahertz spectral boundaries.
- Conduct research primarily concentrating on either optical or Terahertz spectroscopy, based on expertise and interest.
- Examine ultrafast dynamic processes using pump-probe techniques at femtosecond and picosecond time scales.
- Contribute to the enhancement of experimental infrastructure and implement innovative measurement concepts.
- Engage directly with sophisticated laser systems and embrace instrumentation development as a key component of experimental physics.
- Enjoy substantial scientific freedom to develop unique experimental strategies and explore uncharted scientific domains.
- Collaborate effectively with international partners and leading theoretical research groups.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Possesses (or is nearing completion of) a PhD in experimental physics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrates significant hands-on experience with ultrafast laser systems.
- Preferably has a background in condensed-matter physics.
- Driven to tackle challenging scientific questions and understand physical phenomena at a fundamental level.
- Exhibits creativity and self-organization, with a passion for developing unconventional experimental solutions.
- Values interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly at the juncture of ultrafast optics and condensed-matter physics.
- Capable of articulating scientific concepts clearly to peers across various fields.
