About Us
The "Stomatal Biology" group at the Institute for Plant Sciences, University of Bern explores how grasses and succulents develop and organize their stomata—essential 'breathing pores'. We utilize a combination of single-cell genomics, live imaging, genetics, and protein biochemistry. This research is conducted within the framework of the research unit "Cereal Stem Cell Systems - RU52350".
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the spatial coordination of vein and stomatal development in grass leaves. This position is fully funded for two years, with a potential extension.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A completed PhD in plant biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Proficient written and oral English communication skills.
- Solid experience in (plant) molecular genetics, microscopy, and cell biology.
- Previous experience with model grass species, plant signaling, protein biochemistry, or single-cell/spatial transcriptomics (preferred).
- An open and collaborative mindset for teamwork within our research unit.
Project Insights
This research initiative is funded through the SNSF and DFG within the CSCS research unit. It builds upon previous findings related to the spatial coordination between stomatal rows and leaf veins, utilizing tools like spatial genomics, live imaging, and biochemistry to elucidate their communication.
