Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified individual to work on a captivating project focused on the atmospheres of transiting sub-Neptunes. This role is tied to the SNSF-funded project "Exo-Neptune Census," under the guidance of Assistant Professor Hugh Osborn. The project aims to analyze the radii, masses, and atmospheres of these unique planets, providing insights into their formation, composition, and evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Extracting atmospheric volatile abundances and bulk planetary compositions from JWST observations.
- Contributing to the detection of new Neptune-like exoplanets and their characterization through various observational facilities.
- Collaborating with leading experts in atmospheric observations, theoretical modeling, and data retrieval.
- Supporting the IN/AT-SYNC JWST large program targeting sub-Neptunes in resonant systems.
- Facilitating the teaching process and mentoring Masters’ projects and PhD students.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proficiency in applying Bayesian statistical methods to astronomical datasets.
- Experience with exoplanetary transit modeling and a solid understanding of atmospheric physics.
- A proven record as an independent researcher, especially in extracting spectra from JWST timeseries data.
- Additional expertise in theoretical modeling of planetary interiors and atmospheres.
