Opportunities in Neurotechnology Research
The Neurotechnology Group led by Prof. Mehmet Fatih Yanik at ETH Zurich is seeking exceptional PhD students to contribute to an innovative project aimed at pioneering non-invasive drug delivery technologies for brain therapies. This project develops a focused ultrasound-mediated platform for targeted drug delivery, which has been documented in scientific literature for its efficiency in delivering therapeutic compounds precisely to brain regions.
Project Overview
The initiative focuses on creating advanced ultrasound technologies and responsive therapeutic carriers, designed to improve the efficacy of drug delivery to the brain. By leveraging a novel two-component ultrasound strategy, the platform aims to optimize the concentration and release of drugs at targeted areas, thereby minimizing systemic side effects. The overarching goal is to bring this technology into clinical practice, enhancing treatment options for various neurological disorders through collaborative efforts with esteemed medical and research institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement in this project involves a range of interdisciplinary activities that may include:
- Development of next-generation focused ultrasound systems
- fMRI-guided treatment planning and targeting
- Optimization of therapeutic dosing and drug delivery
- Creation of closed-loop ultrasound neuromodulation systems
- Design of custom hardware and software solutions
- Conducting electrophysiology and neurophysiology experiments
- Executing rodent and large-animal neuroscience studies
- Translating technology for clinical application
- Partnering with clinicians on first-in-human clinical studies
- Involvement in medical device development and regulatory compliance
