Role Overview
In this pivotal position, you will be a key technical and intellectual property specialist within Accelleron’s Global IP organization. Your expertise will be integral in independently driving the protection of our technologies. You will collaborate directly with R&D leadership, project managers, and external counsels, employing sound judgment and autonomy to maintain robust IP protection across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Patent Portfolio Management:
- Evaluate invention disclosures and conduct prior art searches to support strategic IP decisions.
- Manage the company’s patent and design patent portfolio during prosecution processes.
- Prepare regular patent portfolio assessments for the IP review team.
- Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to develop strong IP protection strategies.
- Freedom to Operate (FTO):
- Coordinate FTO processes and provide expert guidance during product development.
- Identify and mitigate IP risks proactively.
- Enhance FTO processes with innovative AI solutions.
- Third-Party Patent Monitoring:
- Assess and monitor relevant third-party patent applications and legal changes.
- Conduct technical assessments of potential conflicts with the aid of patent attorneys.
- IP Processes & Tools:
- Maintain and optimize IP management tools.
- Train employees on patent-related processes.
- Continuously improve IP processes for efficiency and stakeholder value.
- Contractual & Enforcement Support:
- Review IP clauses in contracts and assist in enforcement cases as part of the enforcement team.
- Collaboration:
- Act as the main contact for external law firms and coordinate with internal functions on patent matters.
- Evaluate supplier requests for the use of Accelleron’s intellectual property.
Desired Background
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering, preferably in:
- Turbocharging/Turbomachinery
- Internal combustion engines and power generation systems
- Materials and additive manufacturing
- Experience as a patent officer or engineer, or a strong motivation to transition into this career.
- Structured approach to work with planning and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently with high accuracy, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Teams, and SharePoint.
- Interest in identifying and applying AI solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Fluency in German and English; familiarity with IP management tools is a plus.
