Your Role

As a vital member of our Applications team, you will play an integral part in supporting both the Application Services and Application Development units. We are looking for a motivated and skilled lab technician to enhance our single cell biopsy collection capabilities and to oversee our RNA library preparation and quality control pipeline. Utilizing the most advanced protocols for ultra-low input RNA-Seq, you will directly contribute to the groundbreaking development of technologies that are transforming genomics.

In this dynamic position, you will engage in both hands-on wet lab experiments, which include single-cell biopsy collection, cell culture, and RNA library preparation, while also undertaking essential laboratory management responsibilities. As the lab responsible individual, you will strive to ensure the efficient operation of our laboratory and cell culture areas by upholding biosafety standards, managing supplies, and optimizing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support our teams effectively.

Your Key Duties

  • Collect single cell biopsy samples for application development and customer projects.
  • Execute NGS RNA library preparation, quantification (e.g., qPCR, automated electrophoresis), and rigorous quality control.
  • Operate and maintain specialized instruments (FluidFM Omnium, Fragment Analyzer, etc.).
  • Manage laboratory and cell culture housekeeping including maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, preparing aliquots and stock solutions, and ensuring biosafety compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results using an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
  • Collaborate with the development team to continuously enhance protocols, define SOPs, and support experimental planning activities.

Who You Are

  • Meticulous: You treat every sample as irreplaceable, understanding the critical nature of your work.
  • Reliable: Your colleagues trust that data in your notebook corresponds to what’s in the tube.
  • Hands-on: You prefer the bench over the desk and take ownership of lab operations.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in a small, close-knit team where contributions are visible and appreciated.
  • Self-organized: You manage your time efficiently, identify issues early, and proactively address tasks that need attention.

Your Profile

  • Completed apprenticeship as a laboratory technician with a specialization in biology, or alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Profound knowledge of molecular biology techniques including RNA extraction and enrichment, PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis, etc.
  • Proficient in mammalian cell culture techniques (Biosafety level 2).
  • Experience in laboratory housekeeping procedures, such as maintaining inventory, handling equipment, ordering supplies, and preparing stock solutions.
  • Experience using an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) or a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; basic knowledge of German is a strong advantage.
  • Desirable: Work experience with single-cell RNA-seq, specifically with low-input RNA-seq protocols such as SMART-seq, FLASH-seq, or other commercial kits.
  • Desirable: Experience in a GLP-compliant lab, or familiarity with ISO 17025 standards.
