Global Health Engineering Group Overview
The Global Health Engineering group operates within the D-MAVT (Mechanical Engineering) department at ETH. Our interdisciplinary team comprises mechanical engineers, environmental engineers, economists, and social scientists, focused on impactful research in resource-constrained countries.

Project Background
The Open Science team is engaged in developing efficient data cleaning and extraction processes, creating comprehensible visualizations, and curating data publications.
Key Responsibilities
Contributions will include:
- Updating raw data extraction for scientific publications.
- Extracting data from PDF documents to compile metadata for projects funded under the ETH Board Open Research Data (ORD) program.
- Contributing to data packages generated by the openwashdata community.
- Assisting in R data publication packages such as washr and fairenough.
Desired Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A passion for concise, reusable data and code.
- Familiarity with standard data science tools, including Git, GitHub, R, Python, RStudio IDE, and VS Code.
- Competence in solving problems using R Tidyverse packages and proficiency in the methodologies discussed in R for Data Science.
- An awareness of the latest developments in Large Language Models (LLMs) and their academic applications.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- A valid work permit for Switzerland.
Work Environment
We are located in Zurich, providing a central workspace with flexibility for occasional remote work. Employment conditions follow university guidelines, offering five weeks of vacation, diverse training opportunities, and a salary starting at 3000 CHF per month.

Interview Insights
