The Global Health Engineering group, part of the D-MAVT (Mechanical Engineering) department at ETH, is dedicated to addressing challenges in resource-constrained countries. Our diverse team encompasses mechanical engineers, environmental engineers, economists, and social scientists, and we are committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and knowledge sharing.
Project Involvement
As a key member of our Open Science team, your contributions will enhance our initiatives through:
- Updating raw data extraction for scientific publications.
- Extracting data from PDF documents to compile metadata for projects funded under the ETH Board Open Research Data program.
- Assisting in creating data packages generated by the openwashdata community.
- Supporting R data publication packages like washr and fairenough.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate possesses:
- A passion for creating concise and reusable data and code.
- Proficiency in standard data science tools such as Git, GitHub, R, Python, RStudio IDE, and VS Code.
- Competence in utilizing R Tidyverse packages and problem-solving based on the principles outlined in "R for Data Science."
- Knowledge of the latest technical developments in Large Language Models (LLMs) and their academic applications.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- A valid work permit for Switzerland, with details to be provided during discussions.

Interview Structure
Interviews will be conducted remotely, comprising a personal session and a technical evaluation focusing on proficiency in R programming and Tidyverse packages. Our team will be available to answer any questions you may have.
