Join a Pioneering Research Community

We are excited to announce an opportunity within our innovative Data Science Fellowship track of the Novartis Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, aimed at revolutionizing drug discovery through advanced research.

About the Program

This applied research program offers a rare chance to train in Data Science and AI within the context of biomedical research. As part of this vibrant program, you will apply your quantitative and computational skills to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes and contribute to the advancement of medicine at Novartis.

As a fellow in this community, you will participate in monthly seminars and various events designed to enhance your scientific network and growth. You will engage with a supportive and collaborative network of over 300 global data scientists, creating a unique platform to handle real-world biomedical data that is often inaccessible in academia. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a Postdoc Practicum in another laboratory or within a functional area of Novartis.

This project will primarily focus on human genetics-driven target discovery related to immunological diseases, utilizing statistical and machine learning models to identify causal variants and map them to potential target genes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to advance your project.
  • Analyze and visualize human genetics alongside complementary omics data.
  • Utilize statistical and machine learning methodologies to identify disease-associated variants and their regulatory mechanisms.
  • Support hypotheses derived from machine learning models through comprehensive analysis of omics datasets.
  • Collaborate effectively with wet lab scientists to verify findings from in silico research.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A PhD in Genetics, Computational Biology, or a related field (Note: PhD students in their final year are welcome to apply).
  • Strong computational and statistical analysis capabilities related to genetics and omics data.
  • Programming proficiency in R/Bioconductor and/or Python, including skills in data visualization and reproducible research.
  • Familiarity with machine and deep learning techniques is advantageous.
  • A background in Immunology is a plus.
  • A robust publication record or significant other scientific achievements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A passion for exploratory research and a deep curiosity to drive scientific innovation.

Program Duration and Location

This fellowship is a full-time position with a duration of three years, commencing on September 1, 2025, based at our campus in Basel, Switzerland.
