Elys Boulderloft is a premier bouldering gym, operating year-round and dedicated to providing an exceptional climbing experience. As a vital part of our operations, route setting is essential to enhancing the quality and appeal of our facility. We are seeking a knowledgeable and internationally-focused expert to guide the professional and organizational advancement of our route-setting initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of route setting within the bouldering gym.
• Develop and implement modern bouldering and route-setting strategies.
• Ensure a diverse, safe, and high-quality bouldering experience for various demographics and skill levels.
• Plan, coordinate, and maintain quality control of the route-setting team.
• Train, guide, and foster the development of route setters and supporting staff.
• Monitor international trends in route setting, movement design, holds, volumes, and training environments.
• Select, purchase, and manage climbing holds, volumes, and route-setting materials professionally.
• Conduct budget planning and manage costs within the route-setting department.
• Collaborate closely with management, training, course offerings, and operations.
• Uphold high standards of safety, quality, and cleanliness in all route-setting tasks.
• Be prepared to work irregular hours, including outside of regular opening times.

Requirements

• Several years of experience in route setting, ideally within various climbing or bouldering centers and across multiple performance levels.
• Demonstrated expertise in bouldering and professional route setting.
• Active participant in climbing or bouldering at an advanced level, capable of testing and assessing complex movements.
• Experience in leading, coordinating, or nurturing route-setting teams.
• Strong understanding of international developments, trends, and standards in route setting.
• Familiarity with budget planning, material logistics, or purchasing of route-setting equipment is advantageous.
• Proficient command of English; knowledge of German is beneficial, with a willingness to learn.
• High physical endurance and commitment to safety practices.
• Independent, methodical, and responsible approach to work.
• Flexibility to operate in a full-year facility, with potential for irregular working hours.
