Role Overview

This position requires an experienced, enthusiastic, and dynamic leader to drive the strategic development of Physical Education and Sport. As a compulsory subject throughout the Junior and Senior schools, PE and Sport are central to the school's ethos. In Years 10 and 11, students may study IGCSE PE, while Years 12 and 13 offer Sports, Exercise and Health Science in conjunction with the Science department. The successful candidate will implement a clear vision for curriculum Physical Education and all aspects of Sport, ensuring continuity and progression between school stages and fostering a lifelong commitment to sport.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the strategic development plan for the faculty in line with the School’s overall objectives, fostering a love of Physical Education and inspiring a lifelong commitment to Sport.
• Provide line management to the Head of Junior Physical Education and Sport, Head of Senior Physical Education and Sport, Head of Snowsports and Performance Athletes, MCFC football coach, and the Sports Facilities Manager.
• Monitor and develop the quality of teaching, coaching, and learning through regular lesson visits with a clear focus on excellence.
• Implement a clear vision and structure for competitive inter-school sport and a clear programme for inter-house sport, liaising with the Director of Boarding and House Parents to promote sporting initiatives.
• Ensure that the requirements of examination boards are met, including student entry for public examinations, submission of coursework, and preparation for assessments.
• Prepare an annual report for the Deputy Director analyzing external examination results and value-added statistics.
• Oversee the organization of tournaments, fixtures, and trips, and ensure availability for major School events such as The Challenge and Sports Day.
• Manage the booking of snowsports instructors for the winter term, ensuring high-level instruction and regular monitoring of ability groups.
• Chair weekly faculty meetings, ensure adherence to departmental deadlines and policies, and support the professional development of all faculty members.
• Uphold the school’s ethos by treating all community members with respect, setting a good example in dress and punctuality, and participating in pastoral duties, assemblies, and meditations as prescribed.
