Role Overview

This position plays a pivotal role in enhancing the continuous improvement efforts of the organization, focusing on the development and maintenance of a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management System across all global divisions. The emphasis is on creating and implementing clear, practical Group HSE standards and operational procedures that enable safe planning and execution of identified High-Risk Activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of Group-level control standards, policies, and guidelines that align with ISO standards.
  • Provide technical and specialist HSE support for effective implementation of the HSE Management System, including overseeing a robust Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) program tailored to divisional needs.
  • Design and implement safe systems of work, deliver training, and ensure compliance with local legal requirements and the Accelleron Safety Code.
  • Resolve challenges related to the HSE Management System, focusing on reporting, data management, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Assist operational management in developing risk-based method statements and risk assessments, ensuring thorough hazard identification and risk reduction measures.
  • Facilitate HSE and High-Risk Activity training to ensure legal compliance and alignment with Group HSE Standards.
  • Conduct incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and the definition of SMART corrective actions, while training investigators on relevant methodologies.
  • Promote safety leadership by encouraging safe behaviors and challenging unsafe practices within daily operations.
  • Contribute to the financial planning process for the HSE function and manage performance in line with budgetary constraints.
  • Support the development of a competent HSE team through training and development opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Higher National Certificate, Technical Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), or a diploma in a mechanical or electrical trade, ideally with a technical engineering apprenticeship.
  • Professional qualification in HSE equivalent to NEBOSH Diploma or Degree, and IOSH Certification.
  • Experience in a supervisory or mentoring role, with exposure to engineering within various industries such as manufacturing or oil & gas.
  • Certified Internal ISO Auditor for ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on technical experience in manufacturing or service operations, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Approximately 10 years of HSE experience in global environments, demonstrating measurable improvements in safety performance.
  • Proven capability in implementing High-Risk Activity Minimum Standards and related practices.
  • Experience in developing HSE management system documentation and training materials including policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Continuous Improvement methodologies, with a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt being a plus.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
