Executive Director of Applied AI

Position Overview

Located in Basel, Switzerland, this role offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring three days a week in the office. This opportunity involves a significant investment in shaping the future of applied AI within a global healthcare organization dedicated to supporting patients and healthcare systems worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the applied AI deployment strategy, execution roadmap, and business integration model across enterprise business units.
• Partner with business teams to translate strategic priorities into deployable products and intelligent workflows.
• Oversee end-to-end implementation and scaling of generative AI, agentic systems, and workflow automation in production environments.
• Establish delivery frameworks and engineering standards to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure.
• Build and lead a globally distributed team of applied AI engineers while coordinating with cross-functional product and delivery teams.
• Create reusable AI services and integration patterns to expedite time to value across various business domains.
• Collaborate with data, infrastructure, and business teams to align solutions with enterprise and regulatory priorities.
• Monitor solution performance and optimize services through user feedback and analysis.
• Facilitate modernization of existing systems to integrate with AI products.
• Communicate the business impact and technical vision to senior executives and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in technology leadership, enterprise AI transformation, or solution delivery.
• Hands-on expertise in applied AI, machine learning, and enterprise-scale adoption.
• Solid grounding in software and product engineering, with experience in complex AI integrations.
• Success in defining and scaling enterprise-level AI initiatives with measurable outcomes.
• Experience collaborating with senior technology and business leaders on transformations and strategy.
• Proven capability in people leadership and organizational development.
• Strong executive communication and influence skills across complex organizations.

Desirable Requirements

• Master's degree in a relevant field or an MBA.
• Experience delivering AI solutions in regulated environments, such as healthcare or life sciences.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected annual salary for this position ranges from CHF 164,500.00 to CHF 305,500.00. In addition to a competitive salary, you may be eligible for performance-based bonuses depending on specific performance parameters. A comprehensive benefits package, including insurance, retirement plans, wellbeing resources, and flexible work arrangements, is also available. This includes a minimum of 14 weeks of paid parental leave to support work-life balance.
