Position Overview

An innovative biotechnology company is seeking an accomplished professional to establish and lead a newly created function that supports a growing drug discovery pipeline. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge screening and automation projects aimed at accelerating breakthroughs in the biotech sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop automation strategies, high-throughput screening platforms, and functional assay capabilities to support multiple discovery programs.
  • Recruit and mentor a team of scientists and technical specialists.
  • Drive innovation across screening workflows and laboratory technologies.
  • Lead the design, optimization, and execution of high-throughput screening campaigns.
  • Oversee the development and transfer of cell-based and biochemical assays onto automated platforms.
  • Implement innovative automation technologies, workflows, and screening solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with biology, pharmacology, chemistry, and discovery teams to support portfolio progression.
  • Ensure high-quality screening data generation, operational excellence, and equipment performance.
  • Manage external vendors, technology partners, and CRO collaborations as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience within biotechnology or pharmaceutical drug discovery environments.
  • Significant leadership experience managing and developing scientific teams.
  • Deep expertise in laboratory automation, liquid handling platforms, robotic systems, and screening technologies.
  • Strong background in high-throughput screening and assay development.
  • Proven experience developing cell-based, biochemical, and target engagement assays.
  • Track record of implementing new technologies that positively impact drug discovery productivity.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with acoustic liquid handling and high-content imaging.
  • Experience in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and scientific data management.
  • Experience managing external vendors, technology providers, and CROs.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position ranges from $200,000 to $230,000 annually.
