About Us

The unit of Molecular Pathology at the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at the University Hospital Zurich is at the forefront of precision medicine innovations, specializing in tumor genomics and multi-omics data integration. Our diagnostic practices leverage several advanced omics technologies including whole genome sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, methylation arrays, digital pathology, and panel sequencing. Our team is dedicated to analyzing raw data from these methods to produce diagnostic reports, develop new methodologies, and support a variety of research initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

• Conduct independent analysis, quality control, and interpretation of NGS and multi-omics data within a diagnostic framework.
• Develop, validate, and implement bioinformatics pipelines tailored for routine molecular diagnostics.
• Perform immunogenomics analyses and provide clinically relevant interpretations.
• Apply machine learning and AI techniques to omics data, focusing on robustness and interpretability.
• Transform new methodologies into routine diagnostics, ensuring thorough documentation and validation.
• Collaborate with pathologists and molecular biologists to prepare clinical reports.
• Assist in training medical and laboratory staff on data interpretation and bioinformatics workflows.

Candidate Profile

• Achieved MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Medical Informatics, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated strong experience in NGS/omics data analysis within applied settings.
• Proficient in Python and/or R (Bioconductor).
• Possess a solid understanding of molecular biology and genetics, capable of interpreting data within a biological and clinical context.
• Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning techniques.
• Familiarity with workflow management systems (Nextflow, Snakemake) and container technologies (Docker/Singularity).
• Exhibit excellent analytical, communication, and writing abilities.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cancer genomics, immunogenomics, transcriptomics, or epigenetics.
• Background in metagenomics, AI-based image analysis, data management, or structured reporting.
• Experience in integrative multi-omics methodologies or working in clinical/medical environments.
