Located at the Institute of Food, Nutrition, and Health at ETH Zurich, you will be part of the Laboratory of Food Systems Biotechnology, working with a team dedicated to advancing our understanding of microbial communities and their impacts on food and human health.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves the development and enhancement of bioinformatics software designed for the analysis and integration of microbiome and other omics datasets. You will collaborate within a diverse team of scientists and engineers, driving the advancement of open-source software across various research initiatives.

Ideal Profile

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in relevant fields such as computer science, data science, electrical engineering, or computational biology.
  • Proficient in Python programming with substantial experience in bioinformatics software development.
  • Proven track record of developing open-source bioinformatics tools.
  • Experience with collaborative software development practices, particularly on Git and GitHub.
  • Familiarity with implementing GitHub Actions workflows.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, for effective communication with colleagues and collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing software with QIIME 2.
  • Knowledge of biological data structures and data formats.
  • Experience working with microbiome datasets such as marker gene and metagenome data.
  • Familiarity with the conda ecosystem and conda-build.
  • Experience in software containerization using Docker or Singularity.
  • Proficiency in high-performance computing environments.
