Position Overview
Join our dynamic Biomedical Materials team, where you will be a vital contributor to the advancement of novel biomaterials for regenerative medicine applications. We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable technician who can thrive in a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the effective operation of laboratory instruments, such as HPLC, electrospray, FTIR, and rheometer, while developing related documentation and providing user training.
- Support laboratory operations, suggesting and implementing enhancements for increased efficiency.
- Manage the ordering system, maintain the chemical inventory, handle lab duties, and coordinate shipments for the team.
- Conduct chemical synthesis, primarily focusing on biopolymers and related scientific projects.
- Execute technical tasks independently while collaborating with scientists on project objectives.
- Enforce safety regulations within the ARI laboratories, ensuring compliance with established processes and guidelines.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation and laboratory protocols in coordination with team members.
- Educate and guide lab users on best practices for laboratory operations.
- Oversee general lab safety at ARI, including the safety briefing for new team members and conducting safety evaluations.
- Serve as a member of the AO Occupational Safety and Hygiene Committee, with responsibilities for environmental protection.
- Facilitate sample collection and external analyses, with potential for occasional travel to Davos.
- Present brief scientific updates and introduce new measuring equipment during team meetings.
Essential Qualifications
- Certification as a chemistry laboratory technician or equivalent educational background.
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a comparable role.
- Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge in the chemical synthesis and characterization of biopolymers.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and reliability in all tasks.
- Proactive and independent, with a structured approach to work.
- Excellent communication skills and effective teamwork capabilities.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is a significant advantage.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Experience in laboratory safety and chemical handling is essential.
Employment Conditions
Candidates lacking core qualifications, specifically in biopolymer synthesis or laboratory safety experience, may be considered for a three-year contract. There will be a focus on bridging these gaps, with the potential for a permanent contract thereafter.
