The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health is dedicated to advancing discovery and translational research in personalized health. Our extensive expertise ranges from software engineering and biomedical data management to lab automation and screening services. Within our multi-disciplinary environment, the Clinical Bioinformatics Group leverages knowledge in bioinformatics and statistics to further biomedical research and clinical applications.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our Clinical Bioinformatics Group in Basel. This role emphasizes project-specific analyses of diverse high-throughput multi-omics datasets, including whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing, single-cell, and spatial data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and document analytical workflows with scientific rigor and best practices.
- Lead assigned analyses while collaborating closely with the group lead and other experts within the NEXUS team.
- Engage in joint project planning, interpreting, and disseminating results.
- Develop and maintain reproducible analysis pipelines and software tools, contributing to shared infrastructure.
- Ensure data management aligns with FAIR principles and support partners in adopting best practices for Research Data Management (RDM).
Project Scope
Our projects encompass biomedical research and clinical diagnostics, covering an array of applications from basic NGS data processing to clinical reporting and public health surveillance. NEXUS works in close collaboration with academic institutions and hospitals, fostering a dynamic environment where scientific excellence and collaboration yield impactful results.
Qualifications
- MSc (or higher) in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research involving molecular datasets.
- Proven ability to extract biological insights and visualize complex multi-omics data.
- Demonstrated experience in genomics and/or transcriptomics sequencing data analysis.
- Strong programming skills in Python or R.
- Familiarity with HPC environments and Bash scripting.
- Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with AI or machine learning methods.
- Background in statistics or software development.
- Familiarity with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
- Knowledge of German.
