About the Role
If you are passionate about computational mass spectrometry and bioinformatics, we invite you to be a part of our dynamic team. In this role, you will focus on data processing and analysis to support our researchers. Your contributions will enhance our capabilities in raw data handling, high-performance computing, statistical evaluations, and integrated analysis, while also ensuring data reproducibility through effective management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the proteomics and metabolomics community by maintaining and enhancing mass spectrometric data processing and analysis pipelines.
- Utilize your expertise in informatics and data science to guarantee the reproducibility of conducted data analyses.
- Engage with the bioinformatics group to assist collaborators at ETH and the University of Zurich with data interpretation and various bioinformatics projects.
Desired Profile
Required Skills and Experiences:
- Proven team player capable of collaborating with wet-lab scientists to translate their needs into actionable analyses.
- Academic qualifications in relevant fields such as computer science, statistics, or biology, with a master's or Ph.D. preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Linux, including command-line interface experience.
- Practical knowledge of programming languages (C++, C#, Java, Python) and tools like Git.
- Responsible use of AI-assisted tools in a scientific context.
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
- Familiarity with managing and analyzing large-scale datasets, particularly omics data.
- Background in bioinformatics, especially in mass spectrometry.
- Experience in imaging, spatial or cross-omics disciplines.
- Proven ability to write and maintain code.
- Experience in R/Bioconductor and client-side web programming.
- Knowledge of UI/UX design, particularly in web-based or desktop interfaces for scientific visualization.
- Experience with virtualization tools (e.g., Docker, Apptainer) and resource management software (e.g., Slurm).
The ability to work independently and collaborate with technical staff and external research teams is essential. Proficiency in English is required, as it is the primary language of the center.
