Position Overview

This role is part of the ABB Research team, specifically focusing on Sensing and Analytics. As a key member of this highly motivated international group, you will have the opportunity to work on pioneering sensing solutions for ABB’s next-generation systems and products.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to research projects aimed at developing sensing and machine perception solutions for various industries, including process automation and maritime transport.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create innovative, high-value sensing products and solutions from initial concept to experimental validation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct technical surveys, and generate impactful project proposals while engaging with researchers and engineers across various ABB units and academic institutions.
  • Publish research findings in scientific journals and technical reports, aiming to generate intellectual property.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong expertise in machine perception and computer vision, with additional knowledge in machine learning, reinforcement learning, sensor fusion, or digital signal processing considered advantageous.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++) and familiarity with the Linux environment.
  • Hands-on experience with sensing hardware and software frameworks such as OpenCV and ROS2 is a plus.
  • Demonstrated publication record in reputable scientific conferences and journals.
  • A collaborative mindset with a readiness to explore new industrial applications and technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
