Join a Leading Research Facility
The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a premier research and training facility resulting from the partnership between ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. We harness cutting-edge technologies and specialized expertise to support the Zurich life science research community in omics research.
Supporting the Proteomics Unit
The FGCZ Proteomics Unit plays a vital role in assisting both internal and external research groups by providing a range of services, training, and instrument access. Our analytical capabilities focus on:
- Identifying, characterizing, and quantifying proteins in various biological samples, including body fluids, tissues, and cells.
- Collaborative efforts with the Bioinformatics team to cover all stages of proteomics workflows—from consultation and experimental design to data processing and analysis.
- Multi-omics approaches supported by our IT and bioinformatics experts alongside our Metabolomics and Genomics Units.
Your Contributions
As part of our international team, you will primarily contribute by:
- Supporting sample preparation and data acquisition for multiple mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflows aimed at peptide and protein analysis using LC-MS technology.
- Conducting routine sample preparation methods such as in-gel, on-beads, and in-solution digestion, as well as peptide desalting.
- Evaluating and interpreting quality control features throughout data acquisition and performing basic data analysis workflows.
- Maintaining various LC-MS instrument platforms and aiding in the organization of our proteomics laboratories.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A completed professional training as a chemistry or biology laboratory technician, or a bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry, biology, or a closely related field.
- Wet lab experience in biochemistry and/or analytical chemistry.
- Hands-on experience with LC-MS and/or other protein analysis techniques is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills and a flexible approach to various analytical protocols in a dynamic environment, with a keen attention to detail and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of German is beneficial.
- A collaborative spirit with a strong desire to learn and contribute positively to the field of proteomics and protein analysis.
Impact and Benefits
Joining our team means making a significant impact as part of ETH Zurich. We are committed to your professional development while actively contributing to positive societal change. You can look forward to numerous benefits, including:
- Public transport season tickets and car-sharing options.
- A wide range of sports activities offered by the ASVZ.
