Opportunity for a Dedicated Neuroscientist

Location: Basel, Switzerland

Onsite, full time

About the Role

We invite you to apply your innovative research experience in neurodegenerative diseases to explore age-related pathophysiological modifications in the central nervous system (CNS). In this dynamic global research environment, your work will contribute to the discovery of new therapeutic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging.

Our mission centers on pioneering the development of novel therapeutic methods derived from a profound understanding of age as a leading risk factor for neurodegeneration and its related functional impairments.

The ideal candidate possesses a robust background in neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer’s disease, alongside experience in the translational aspects of human pathophysiology using rodent models. By aligning with the Diseases of Aging and Regenerative Medicine (DARe) sector within Biomedical Research, you will participate in global research initiatives designed to illuminate and target the molecular mechanisms inherent to neurodegenerative diseases, facilitating advancements in pharmacological interventions for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a small *in vivo* laboratory team and design as well as conduct state-of-the-art *in vivo* experiments using mouse and rat models to advance research directed at developing novel therapeutics for age-related neurodegenerative diseases, particularly focusing on Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Mentor and support the career development of direct reports.
  • Conduct innovative research on pathophysiological changes in neurons and other CNS cell types, including synaptic dysfunction and metabolic alterations associated with aging and disease.
  • Collaborate with the DARe In-vivo Physiology, In-vitro Biology, and Data Science teams, as well as scientists from the Neuroscience disease area, to achieve research objectives.
  • Assist in identifying biomarker candidates and elucidating drug modes of action, as well as understanding interactions between different CNS cell types and other organs to delineate disease pathways and intervention strategies.
  • Integrate laboratory research using *in vitro*, *in vivo*, and *ex vivo* tissue and biofluid analyses by utilizing a broad array of molecular and cellular techniques.
  • Interpret and present research findings both in written and oral formats in project team meetings and management decision boards.

Qualifications

Essential

  • PhD with a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral research experience in neuroscience, along with hands-on expertise in designing and conducting experiments involving rodents, as demonstrated through publications.
  • Accreditation for animal experimentation (LTK1/LTK2, FELASA B, or equivalent).
  • Thorough understanding of human and animal pathophysiology related to neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. Knowledge in neuro-endocrine systems, metabolism, and CNS tissue homeostasis is advantageous.
  • Proficient in handling and analyzing large data sets, integrating genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data into research.
  • A motivated learner with a proactive approach to addressing neurodegenerative conditions and regenerative medicine.
  • Dynamic and inquisitive mindset with a proven ability to devise, articulate, and critically assess scientific experiments.
  • Exceptional teamwork capabilities and the ability to thrive in cross-disciplinary teams, with a strong desire to stay current with the latest *in vivo* methodologies.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English with strong communication skills.

Desirable Attributes

  • Knowledge of aging biology.
  • Experience in exploring pathophysiological interactions between distinct CNS cell types and subregions, as well as peripheral organs.
