Join Us in Advancing Neurorehabilitation Technology
The Singapore-ETH Centre, established by ETH Zurich and Singapore’s National Research Foundation, is at the forefront of addressing urban sustainability, health, and resilience challenges. With a unique focus on developing innovative solutions, we bring together researchers from diverse disciplines and expertise to create impactful outcomes for society.
Project Overview
As the demand for long-term rehabilitation for stroke survivors increases, there is a pressing need to develop scalable, cost-effective solutions that extend beyond traditional clinical settings. Our Future Health Technologies Programme is dedicated to enhancing upper limb rehabilitation through innovative technologies, such as the RELab tenoexo soft robotic hand orthosis. This initiative aims to promote clinic-to-home rehabilitation integration within Singapore's healthcare system.
Your Role
In this role, you will engage in the evaluation and enhancement of the RELab tenoexo, focusing on its application for neurorehabilitation. Your work will adopt a user-centered design approach, taking into account the needs of post-stroke patients and insights from clinicians to identify key improvement areas.
Your Responsibilities
- Utilize a human-centered design approach to develop a hand exoskeleton that supports therapy and daily activities.
- Collaborate on the technical design and evaluation of the exoskeleton, benchmarking it against existing solutions.
- Optimize design features, such as finger mechanisms and gamification elements, to enhance user experience and functionality.
- Conduct clinical validation studies with post-stroke subjects in partnership with local hospitals.
- Design and execute clinical studies, collecting and analyzing relevant data.
- Work closely with a team member developing a behavioral intervention to encourage adherence to therapy.
- Support the supervision of master’s students and technical personnel.
- Present research findings at international conferences and publish outcomes in peer-reviewed journals.
Desired Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
- A strong passion for neurorehabilitation and robotic technologies.
- Experience in developing or evaluating robotic devices, particularly within neurorehabilitation contexts.
- Knowledge of human-robot interaction, usability evaluation, and movement science.
- Familiarity with electromechanical design and assembly processes.
- Independent, proactive mindset with a focus on achieving goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Curiosity and a drive for rigorous experimental research.
- A desire to learn and grow in an international setting.
What We Provide
- A diverse and inclusive workplace representing 32 nationalities, enhancing mutual learning.
- 25 days of annual leave, in addition to a dedicated Birthday Leave.
- Annual dental benefits and comprehensive healthcare insurance.
- Flexible hybrid work arrangements to support your work-life balance.
- A supportive environment that prioritizes your physical and mental wellness.
