Overview

The Singapore-ETH Centre, established in collaboration with ETH Zurich and Singapore's National Research Foundation, is dedicated to addressing global challenges through innovative research. Located in a rapidly urbanizing region, the centre focuses on sustainable urban solutions and health technologies aimed at enhancing community resilience and overall well-being.

Project Background

Stroke remains a significant cause of long-term disability, necessitating effective rehabilitation solutions that can be delivered both in clinics and home settings. The Future Health Technologies Programme has made strides in developing technologies for upper limb rehabilitation, including the RELab tenoexo, a soft robotic exoskeleton designed to improve the lives of stroke survivors. The next phase aims to scale and validate these technologies to facilitate their integration into healthcare systems.

Position Responsibilities

In this role, your work will principally involve the evaluation and enhancement of the RELab tenoexo exoskeleton tailored for neurorehabilitation. Collaborating closely with interdisciplinary partners, you will:

  • Utilize a human-centered design approach to improve the exoskeleton’s functionality in therapy and daily activities.
  • Conduct technical design, development, and performance evaluations of the exoskeleton.
  • Optimize mechanical components and explore innovative features like gamification and control mechanisms.
  • Engage with post-stroke subjects in clinical trials to validate the device's effectiveness.
  • Design and implement clinical studies, including data collection and analysis.
  • Collaborate with peers on behavioral interventions to enhance home therapy adherence.
  • Supervise technical staff and master students in research projects.
  • Present research findings at international conferences and in academic journals.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • A strong interest in neurorehabilitation and robotic technologies.
  • Experience in the development or assessment of robotic systems, particularly in neurorehabilitation.
  • Proficiency in electromechanical design, usability evaluation, and human-robot interaction.
  • Capacity to conduct applied research with a focus on clinical relevance.
  • Proven communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A commitment to scientific rigor and a passion for learning in an international context.
