Position Overview

Join a pioneering initiative to transform the diagnosis and management of adrenal disorders through innovative digital tools. This role offers an opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary team that merges clinical endocrinology, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, ethics, and law.

Project Background

This project is part of a collaborative effort that focuses on the utilization of nanotechnology-enhanced electrochemical sensors aimed at developing highly sensitive, selective, and reversible biomarker sensing capabilities. The work will center on designing and fabricating functional electrode coatings and surface architectures to ensure high signal stability and resistance to biofouling.

Key Responsibilities

The role requires full-time commitment, with the following specific tasks:

  • Engineering of redox-active or affinity-based interfaces (nanoparticles, single-atom isolates, artificial enzymes) with adjustable binding kinetics.
  • Integration of these interfaces with sensing transduction schemes to achieve high sensitivity and selectivity in complex media.
  • Validation through controlled in vitro and ex vivo systems to correlate electrochemical signals with biochemical processes accurately.
  • Support for in vivo testing in mouse models and participation in clinical trials.

Training and Development

  • Participation in the structured PhD program of the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering or the Department of Health Sciences and Technology.
  • Engagement in the interdisciplinary training of the network, including workshops, retreats, and transferable skills courses across Europe.
  • Opportunities for secondments at leading institutions, including Imperial College London and University Hospital Zurich.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who possesses:

  • A Master’s degree (MSc or equivalent) in (Electro-)Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • A strong interest in translational health technologies.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, with good communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Experience in sensor design, nanoparticle fabrication, or single-atom catalysts is a plus.

Work Environment

Experience a vibrant, culturally diverse environment at ETH Zurich, renowned for its commitment to fostering a family-friendly workplace and offering robust working conditions. Enjoy a competitive salary, comprehensive social security coverage, and opportunities for international networking, industry exposure, and career development.
