Position Overview

Join a prestigious team based in Basel, Switzerland, with additional opportunities in Menges, Slovenia, and Schaftenau, Austria. In this strategic role within TRD Biologics, you will enhance scientific rigor and drive success across our early development portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical input to research teams, guiding candidate selection while addressing safety, efficacy, and development concerns.
  • Facilitate knowledge flow and portfolio oversight by connecting learnings, identifying platform-level issues, and promoting scientific exchange.
  • Utilize structured scientific thinking to tackle critical technical questions, defining options and trade-offs to provide clear recommendations.
  • Strengthen decision-making at key development gates through scientific rigor and a comprehensive, enterprise-wide perspective.
  • Influence and align diverse stakeholders across Novartis and various sites to execute the agreed scientific strategy.
  • Coach and mentor teams to enhance scientific capability and foster a collaborative working environment.
  • Enable innovation by initiating early scientific exchanges and translating findings into actionable guidance for complex modalities.
  • Assess and communicate critical risks promptly, proposing mitigations while maintaining scientific integrity and sound judgment.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to document prior knowledge to support risk assessments and enhance the quality of regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure timely establishment of new formats or technology platforms from research for successful transfer and scaling.

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to bring:

  • An advanced degree (PhD preferred) in a relevant scientific discipline such as biochemistry, chemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Extensive experience (approximately 15 years desirable) spanning the full development spectrum from early research to late development.
  • Cross-disciplinary expertise with significant knowledge in at least one area, effectively connecting analytical, drug substance, and product considerations.
  • A robust internal and external network, with demonstrated influence across complex matrices and the ability to drive resilience.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, adept at coaching across various levels and functions.
  • Strong judgment capability and a keen awareness of critical risks, with the ability to escalate and implement balanced mitigations.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with biologics or complex modalities, with a knack for translating innovation into practical solutions.
  • A track record of driving execution through collaboration, moving from recommendations to implementation within a matrix organization.
  • Ability to navigate multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining a focus on scientific rigor and quality.
  • The position can be appointed at either the Director or Associate Director level, depending on candidate experience.
